Empowering women of the Terai region

Danfe trains and employs women from underprivileged backgrounds in the Terai region of southern Nepal, giving them the opportunity to bring their traditional Mithila artwork to life through beautiful, everyday products. Each piece carries not only a pattern, but also the skill, income, and independence it creates for the women behind it.

What is Mithila art

Mithila art, also known as Madhubani art, originates from the Mithila region spanning southern Nepal and northern India. Traditionally painted by women on the walls and floors of their homes, it was passed down through generations as a way to mark festivals, celebrations, and everyday life. The style is known for its bold lines, natural dyes, and symbolic motifs, often depicting nature, deities, and scenes of daily life. Today, Mithila art carries that same storytelling tradition onto textiles, ceramics, and other handmade pieces.
