Origin

Hand painted by Mithila artists in the Terai region of southern Nepal, this vase carries forward a centuries old tradition of Mithila art, once painted only on the walls and floors of homes, now reimagined on ceramic form. The figures within the pattern echo the Mithila women who paint them, a quiet thread connecting each artist to her own heritage. Danfe Works trains and employs women from underprivileged backgrounds in the region, allowing them to bring this traditional art form to life while building skill, income, and independence. Every pattern is painted freehand, so no two vases are exactly alike.
