Five years ago, I moved from Nepal to Melbourne to begin a new chapter of my life.

Back home, I worked closely with skilled artisans. These were craftsmen and women whose work carries generations of knowledge. I saw the care, the detail, and the time that goes into each piece. I also saw how difficult it was for many of them to reach a wider market.

Leaving that behind was not easy.

In Australia, everything felt new. What I missed most were the small, familiar things. The textures, the colours, and the feeling that a space truly reflects where you come from.

I realised I was not alone in that feeling.

There were others within the South Asian community who missed that same sense of home. There were also people here in Australia who value thoughtful, handmade products and want to bring more meaning into their spaces.

That is how House of Himalayas began.

Today, House of Himalayas operates between Melbourne and Nepal.

I manage the business here in Australia, while my sister works closely with our artisan partners in Nepal. Together, we stay directly connected to the makers behind each product, without layers of middlemen.

This allows us to:
